Tight supply keeps German pig price stable

The German pig price (VEZG) can hold its own this afternoon at an equal level. In contrast to pig prices in the Netherlands, the Christmas bonus in Germany can be carried over to the new year.

The German pork price remains at €2 per kilo, a price level that has been on the shelves for five weeks now. There was still doubt in the market whether the German listing could hold, but that fear turned out to be unfounded. The tight pig supply, due to the decline in animal numbers in recent years, makes the market feel quite solid. The expectation is that the slaughterhouses will join the VEZG movement, although this will only be known later today or tomorrow.

As expected, pig prices in the Netherlands will also remain stable this week, after prices went up last week when prices were not recorded in Germany. Slaughterhouses continue to comment on weak meat sales, but the pressure on pork prices seems to have weakened for the time being.
