As the month of January passes, the pressure on the pig market is decreasing. The German pig price will again remain unchanged this afternoon and the Dutch slaughterhouses will no longer decrease either.
Despite the encouragement of the large slaughterhouses, the VEZG quotation does not give in, with €2 per kilo on the plates again in the coming days. If Tönnies and Vion Germany go along with this, the conclusion can be drawn that the German market has survived the price storm at the beginning of 2023.
Although slaughterhouses talk about a wide range, the slaughter figures in our eastern neighbors are extremely low. Last week the slaughter figure remained below 730.000, a decrease of 10% compared to last year. Apparently there is no will to slaughter.
Stable quotations in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, slaughterhouses have already reduced prices several times on their own initiative, but this week there has been stability. Compaxo keeps the quote the same at €1,71 per kilo, after Vion moved sideways on Monday. The other parties will probably go along with this. The range is wider than in recent weeks, but certainly not disproportionately large.
