Feed cooperatives ABZ De Samen and De Valk Wekerom will enter into a strategic partnership as of February 2023. The collaboration seems to be a prelude to a merger.
The intention of the collaboration is to investigate whether a merger is desirable, both cooperatives report. The news does not come completely out of the blue, given that ABZ De Cooperation and De Valk already worked together. This is now being intensified in the areas of purchasing, nutrition and management support. Both cooperatives feel that they fit well together and want to investigate this this year.
The sales of ABZ De Cooperation in 2021 amounted to about 850.000 tons. The sales of De Valk Wekerom amount to about 250.000 tons, a large part of which is organic. The ambition of ABZ De Cooperation is to increase the market share from 7% to 10% in the coming years, director Marcel Roordink stated at the end of 2021 in an interview. After a possible merger with De Valk, this ambition would be more or less realized.
