The pig market is quietly babbling on. In contrast to other years, the long Easter weekend is not a hindrance to the flow of pigs.
The market is all about stability at the beginning of April. In the run-up to Easter, the quotations increased and that is structural. Despite the long Easter weekend, the pig supply in Europe is not oppressively large, as was sometimes the case in other years. Just as meat supplies in European cold stores are also tight.
Stable foundation
These factors provide a stable foundation for the market. Meat sales are not wild after Easter deliveries. This has to do with the relatively cold spring weather in Europe. In addition, the Southern European countries are not yet really busy shopping for the approaching tourist season. This may support the market in the coming weeks, although price increases are in the offing.
As expected, the DCA Stock Price remains stable. The price for slaughtered pigs remains the same at a record level of €2,24 per kilo. The quotation for live pigs remains unchanged at €1,77 per kilo.
