German pig price rises again after a short pause

June 7, 2023 - Wouter Baan

After a short break, the German pig price is taking off again. The market is benefiting from continued dry and warmer weather, which is boosting demand for BBQ products.

The German pig price increases by €0,05 to €2,43 per kilo. This once again sets a record, although that is more of a side effect. Although there is a lot of appetite in the market due to the tight supply and sunny barbecue weather, a price increase was not a simple matter.

In recent weeks, the large slaughterhouses in Germany have expressed strong resistance to the improving market and rely on the weak export of by-products on the world market. It was not yet known on Wednesday afternoon whether parties such as Tönnies will follow the increase.

The German price increase also has an effect in the Netherlands. For example, Westfort increases by €0,02 to €2,18 per kilo. This means that the direction that the pig trade indicated via the DCA Stock Exchange Price two weeks ago is still fully followed. Compaxo and Van Rooi will keep the listing unchanged. Vion also left the listing unchanged on Monday, but it was not yet known that the German market would rise further.
