Vion is still increasing the pig price this week, after the quotation was left untouched last week. Meanwhile, the piglet market is leveling off, despite further rising pig prices.
Vion increases the quotation this week by €0,07 to €2,48 per kilo. No explanation of the change is given. With the increase, Vion is probably trying to reconnect with the other slaughterhouse quotations in our country and the German market, which recently increased further. The market leader also does something extra, with which they seem to respond to the direction that the DCA Scholarship Award already indicated on Friday.
Whether the other slaughterhouses will go along with this will have to be seen later this week. In any case, the few extra cents that Vion is contributing have set the tone. The German price is also likely to be heading for another increase on Wednesday, after the price took a standstill last week. The tight pig supply is the basis of the erratic but increasing price movements.
Piglet market is leveling off
Piglet prices have responded strongly to the rising pig prices in recent weeks by also picking up. That trend will not continue this week, as the DCA BestPigletPrice levels off at €79 per piglet. The German quotation had already remained at €91 on Friday. Although the demand for piglets remains good, the supply also increases seasonally. This brings the market into better balance.
