Vion and Danish Crown are starting a collaboration to slaughter cattle in Northern Germany, Vion writes in their press release. Director of Vion's North German department Zucht-Nutzvieh indicates that he is pleased that they can continue to offer slaughter capacity in Northern Germany.
Once the closure of the Bad Bramstedt slaughterhouse is completed, Danish Crown will slaughter approximately one thousand cattle per week for Vion's northern German division. The slaughter will take place in the slaughterhouses in Husum and Teterow. According to Vion, the current plan will come into effect from August 1, 2023.
Vion cites the declining livestock population in Northern Germany as the main reason for the new course. Because it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain sufficient livestock, both companies have been reducing their slaughter capacity in the region for some time.
Next steps
Through the collaboration with Danis Crown, Vion is taking concrete follow-up steps to the previous steps announced plan to reorganize activities in Germany. Danish Crown is also working on this and this is apparently fraternizing.
