Vion's brake attempt was willingly followed by the other slaughterhouses in our country. The prices on the German market can remain the same. Does the price cut stand alone, or is this a harbinger for more?
Following Vion, Compaxo, Van Rooi and Westfort are also reducing purchasing prices today. The former even slams on the brakes with a drop from €0,06 to €2,23 per kilo. Van Rooi and Westfort follow Vion's pace and reduce by €0,04. With the price reductions, Dutch slaughterhouses are negatively distancing themselves from Germany, where the VEZG quotation can remain at €2,50 per kilo.
Margin recovery
This means that slaughterhouses prefer to restore margins to full slaughter hooks, although this is in any case unfeasible in the current tight market. The pig supply has recently increased somewhat, but there is a good chance that more pigs will be brought to Germany due to increasing price differences. According to slaughterhouses, this is no different and the margin has not yet recovered, even with this week's reductions.
Insiders talk about a very difficult meat sales market. Whether the situation in the Netherlands deteriorates further will depend greatly on developments in Germany and Spain in the coming weeks.
