The German Association Award (VEZG) remains unchanged this week. This doesn't seem like news, but it does provide some relief after weeks of falling meat prices. Now it's just a first signal. We have to wait for Friday's prices for more confirmation, but if a stabilization follows, the low point in the market seems to be over for the time being.
Viewed in the longer term, the current pig price is still relatively at a very acceptable level, although there are of course all kinds of costs that pig farmers have to deal with.
If the other prices also hold up, the pig farming industry can get through the weak summer period without too many unscathed. Helped by a fairly tight supply, but also in a period when the slaughterhouses are not all running.
Demand may pick up again next week. Then the holiday period in North Rhine-Westphalia is over. Gradually there will be more demand for meat again.
