The piglet price cannot stop the price decline that started in week 28. This week, the price is also falling faster than last week. Traders struggle to get the animals deposited. Exporting countries are increasingly failing.
It is German sales in particular that are having a hard time. Last week, more than 47.000 piglets went to companies in our eastern neighbors, compared to more than 61.000 piglets the week before. Last week's number is the smallest number in a week this year.
Exports also fell to Belgium and Luxembourg and to Italy. Only Spain took in more live piglets, in line with a long-standing trend, but buyers for that market also want to pay less and less. Traders talk about €5,00 to €8,00 less per piglet.
This is an unpleasant development for Dutch sow farmers after months of excellent exports and ditto prices.
It is not clear whether and for how long the current trend will continue. A better market is expected for a market like Germany, although meat prices continue to fall. For Southern Europe, there are more concerns about the purchasing power of consumers in the longer term. Meat has become very expensive for consumers there this year.
DCA BestPigletPrice down again
Based on the specifications, the DCA BestPigletPrice must be reduced even further and therefore amounts to €69,00 per piece. It is hoped that after this decrease some soil formation will take place.
The German Association Price (VEZG) for piglets remains the same this week, at €88,00 each.
