The downward pressure on the pig market will continue for a while. The last signal on the way down is the German association price (VEZG), which is down by €0,10 per kilo.
The VEZG price went to €2,30 per kilo of slaughtered weight, but with a larger traded volume of 266.300 pigs, just under 8.000 more than last week. The animals were also slightly heavier on average than the animals that were presented a week earlier. It is an indicator that there is some pressure on the market.
Shorter week
German slaughterhouses are slaughtering slightly less this week, because the Assumption of Mary was celebrated on Tuesday. As in a number of other Catholic countries, no work took place. It is also the reason there was no internet prize on Tuesday. Even without this holiday, the market is busy. Many slaughterhouses have also shaved off some of their prices for this week. Contrary to what was hoped last week, things remain a bit more difficult on the pig market.
