The piglet price continues on its downward trajectory. Causes are too low meat sales and stagnating sales to more and more importing countries. Exports to Spain have also fallen sharply.
This is evident from the latest figures from RVO.nl. This has hit all major export markets for Dutch piglets
It's not surprising that this happens. Anyone who now raises piglets can deliver them for slaughter around Christmas. However, due to missing working days there is a fairly limited slaughter capacity. And it is not only long-term sales that have a depressing effect on the piglet market. The series of falling pork (meat) prices in recent weeks also has consequences.
Sow farmers had naturally hoped for continued high piglet prices. Yet they can already look back on an unusually long period of above-average high prices. According to DCA figures, this has not been the case since at least 2015.
Of course, that doesn't say everything about the returns, but they seem to have been better so far than in many previous years.
DCA BestPigletPrice down again
Based on the specifications, the DCA BestPigletPrice must be further reduced and therefore amounts to €65,00 per piece. The wait for a bottom in the market will take a little longer. The BestPigletPrice is not alone with the price drop. The German Association Price (VEZG) for piglets drops this week by €8,00 to €80,00 per piece.
