After a difficult period with disappointing demand and heavy write-downs, the piglet market is becoming better balanced again. Various traders report smoother sales.
The fact that the DCA BestPigletPrice did not fall further last week has created calm in the market. After all, it inhibits the incentive for fattening pig farmers to postpone purchases. Comments are made on various signals about improved demand, without any noticeable differences between night and day. The price could even go up a bit, some traders think. Others do not like this at all, as the piglet market is often characterized by contradictory dynamics.
Export demand is in line with the past week. However, the Spanish import figure showed an increase again to above 36 in week 30.000 after five declines in a row. This means that it seems likely that the bottom has been reached, because historically, exports to Spain are picking up again during this period.
The stable pig prices also contribute to a slowly improving mood on the piglet market. The DCA BestPigletPrice remains at €61,50 per piglet for the second week. The German VEZG piglet quotation has been stable for weeks at €80 per piglet.
