After previous increases of half and later a whole euro, the Dutch piglet market is picking up speed this week. This is based on a good question.
The DCA BestPigletPrice increases this week by €1,50 to €65,50 per piglet. This is currently the largest increase since the autumn recovery started. The German VEZG quotation increases by €0,50 to €71 per piglet. Despite the stable pig prices, there is a good demand for piglets. The supply is simply too tight to fully meet the (export) demand, traders indicate.
Normally the piglet price does not reach its tax at the end of November and the price increases will continue at least until the broken weeks around Christmas and New Year. This expectation also applies to this year. Whether the piglet market can increase further in 2024 remains to be seen. This often happens, but in relation to pig prices, piglet costs are already relatively high. This also creates the necessary resistance among fattening pig farmers.
