China lifted its export ban on Belgian pork on Friday, January 12. In 2018, China imposed the ban after an outbreak of African Swine Fever.
The decision took some time. Belgium was already declared swine fever free in 2020. China indicates that the decision was made after an extensive risk analysis, although diplomacy appears to have played a role. The decision followed a two-day state visit by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
It is notable that China banned imports from Bangladesh the day before, after authorities detected the disease in Chittagong, the country's main port city.
