DCA BestPigletPrice on its way to a new record

4 March 2024 - Wouter Baan

The piglet market is characterized by a tight supply and that drives up prices. The DCA BestPigletPrice is about to set a new record.

The supply on the piglet market is so tight that slaughterhouses even report this. Livestock feed companies also sometimes call for piglets and - out of genuine self-interest - stand up for their customers.

Waiting times have increased considerably, especially in Germany. Demand simply exceeds supply. The fact that pig prices have recently picked up again only stimulates demand even more. In other words: it reduces resistance among fattening pig farmers. Nevertheless, the piglet costs for them are high. But those who don't want to pay are missing out.

The DCA BestPigletPrice increases this week by €2 to €78,50 per piglet. This means that the quotation is only €1 below the record level in 2023. This record will probably be broken soon, given that the upward trend will continue. The German VEZG quotation has now risen to €85 per piglet. The distance with the existing record level of €93 is still slightly greater, but that does not mean that this record will be broken this year. The Spanish and Belgian quotations are, just like us, on track for new records.
