Dutch piglet price drops below 50 euros

The piglet trade is very difficult. This has been the case for weeks and will probably continue for a while. Supply simply exceeds demand. There is hardly any demand for free couples. Traders have to do their best if they want to make another €50.

Market disruptions
The market is struggling with a lack of confidence among fattening pig farmers. Now that pork prices have taken another hit, things are not getting any better. For example, Vion reduces by €0,05 to €1,86 per piglet and the other Dutch slaughterhouses will probably follow this move on Wednesday. In addition, there are market disruptions due to the consequences of the Lbv scheme, which costs placement space. The warm weather these days and the limited slaughter programs are also hindering sales.

All this creates increasing price pressure. Based on the statements, the DCA BestPigletPrice drops by €2,50 to €49 per piglet. The German VEZG quotation is finally making serious progress with a reduction of €7 and is now trading at €65.
