Nearly 200 jobs will disappear at Vion in the Netherlands

23 August 2024 - Wouter Baan

At meat processor Vion, 190 jobs will disappear in the Netherlands, including 45 forced redundancies. Not only at the Boxtel main branches, but also at the other branches, according to the CNV trade union. In the meantime, CNV and FNV have withdrawn from the talks because Vion is not prepared to cooperate on a social plan.

The announced layoffs are striking. Vion surrendered in May not recognisable in the sounds that reorganization would also take place in the Netherlands. It now appears that 190 jobs will disappear, 45 of which will be forced dismissals. A spokesperson for CNV said this. Vion itself could not be reached for a response on Friday morning. In total, Vion has approximately 12.000 FTEs.

The employees in question were reportedly told this week that their employment was ending. This mainly concerns support functions, spread across all Vion branches, including the head office in Boxtel. The unions have now stopped talks with Vion, because the meat processor is not prepared to cooperate on a social plan.

It does not come out of the blue that there will be layoffs. Vion is in financial trouble and had to incur a loss of more than €100 million last year. The publication of the annual figures for 2023 has been postponed until September. Vion will then also provide an update on the announced departure from Germany. At the beginning of this week it was announced that Vion had found a buyer for two of the total of eleven German branches.
