Since mid-April, the DCA BestPigletPrice has been in a downward spiral. At that time, the quotation was still at a record level of €80 per piglet. Since then, the Dutch piglet price has fallen by about 40%.
With the stabilization at €48 per piglet, the months-long price decline of the DCA BestPigletPrice comes to an end. The stabilization is because the situation has not deteriorated further, although the willingness of fattening pig farmers to feed pigs is low and will probably remain so for a while. Export demand is also tame.
Yet many traders opt for a bottom in the market. In total, eleven of the eighteen contributors agree with this. The German piglet price is also moving sideways, at €65 per piglet.
Historically, we are now entering a time of largely stable piglet prices. Much will depend on the situation on the pig market. If pig prices unexpectedly fall in September, the piglet price will probably not avoid a further correction.
