Pig market maintains new confidence

6 September 2024 - Klaas van der Horst - 2 comments

The pig market has not disappointed the new confidence of last week, because the prices have not fallen. However, not much else has happened this week. The slaughterhouses speak of a quiet week in itself, with a limited supply and a calm demand, but the battle for the pigs also plays a major role.

The market situation is not expected to change much in the coming week. This is comparable to the situation in the eastern neighbours.
The number of slaughters in Germany has increased slightly. Relatively more than in the Netherlands, but the slaughterhouses remain cautious about the prospects for meat sales.

The prices for most components have also remained the same this week, but for a number of components there was a definite plus (including the hams). Pig farmers and slaughterhouses can take heart from that.

An expected change in the weather can also have a big impact on the market. The holiday period is over, and with it often the time when a lot of barbecuing is done. Now most people are back home and a different menu is often on the table, often with meat.

Based on the data for the DCA Beursprijs 2.0, the final conclusion is that the quotation for slaughtered pigs will increase by €0,01 per kilo to €1,95. The price of live pigs will also increase by €0,01 per kilo to €1,54.
