Live pig market equal, slaughter pigs plus

20 September 2024 - Klaas van der Horst - 3 comments

In North-Western Europe, the calling prices for slaughter pigs remained largely the same this week, but at the same time, the number of slaughters decreased further, especially in the Netherlands. However, the slaughterhouses are keen to keep the lines occupied.

There may be a small plus point here for the suppliers of the pigs. A number of couples may also have slightly more weight differences due to a slightly delayed growth during the warm weather in the previous weeks. These animals are now ready for slaughter.

The export of live pigs also continues to decline. This is happening both towards Germany and to other destinations. The demand for these animals seems to be somewhat weaker. This is partly because consumption is decreasing slightly in all these countries and prices are weakening.

Based on the data for the DCA Beursprijs 2.0, the listing for live pigs remains unchanged at €1,54. For slaughtered pigs, the price increases by €0,01, bringing it to €1,96.
