Piglet sales continue to be difficult, but part of the pig trade is still opting for an increase in the DCA BestPigletPrice this week.
The quotation has risen for the fourth week in a row, by €0,50 to €50,50 per piglet. The sale of piglets is in many cases a rather laborious exercise, but traders nevertheless believe that a limited increase is not out of place to keep in touch with the German market, where quotations have been stable at €64 per piglet for weeks. In addition, a tight piglet price is necessary in light of the high surcharges, some traders believe.
Nevertheless, it sometimes takes a lot of effort for traders to knit the sales from week to week. Moreover, free piglets yield barely more than €50, which means that the sales sometimes cost traders quite a bit of money. This probably also makes it understandable that not every trader is keen on an increase.
