Dutch piglet price does not rise further

14 October 2024 - Wouter Baan - 7 comments

In a rather difficult market, the DCA BestPigletPrice still went up last week. This week, however, the Dutch piglet quotation does not rise any further.

The quotation stabilises at €50,50 per piglet. Based on the completed statements at DCA, an increase is just not on the agenda. This does indicate that the market, despite difficult sales, is still looking upwards. This is because some traders believe that the quotation of the summer has dropped too far. In order to be able to curb the surcharges somewhat, the quotations must be tight, or so the idea goes.

This vision has almost as many supporters as opponents in the market. This also explains why the increases of the past few weeks, based on the data, were often just barely over the ditch. Now the penny has dropped the other way.

Export is going slowly
In the market itself, there is a status quo. Free piglets are difficult to sell and that puts a lot of pressure on export prices. Export demand is also at a low level in terms of numbers. With more than 33.000 piglets, the lowest number went to Spain in week 40 since the end of 2023.
