After a long period with a smooth price picture, the German pig price drops by no less than €0,08 to €1,92 per kilo. This is the lowest level in almost two years. All that time, there was always a 'two' in front of the quotation.

Van Rooi also down
A correction was in the air somewhere, but it can still be said that it is hitting the primary sector and also the trade hard. In recent days, sentiment in the market has deteriorated further. The reduction in Germany will probably also lead to a chain reaction elsewhere in Europe. In the Netherlands, Van Rooi is reducing the pig price by €0,05 to €1,72 per kilo. Compaxo is keeping the quotation unchanged.

Wider offering
The reason for the price corrections is a fairly large German pig supply. With 757.924 pigs, the German slaughter figure last week was more than 3,5% above last year's level. In addition, there will be another slaughter day cancelled in Germany next week. This puts the market under extra pressure due to a larger live supply. The tame meat sales cannot absorb this.
