The lower pig prices of last week also have consequences for the piglet prices. The German piglet price in particular is going down considerably this week, but here in the Netherlands too a reduction is on the boards.
The mood on the piglet market has clearly suffered a considerable blow from the lower pig prices. Sales have been sluggish in recent weeks and the confidence of pig farmers for the market in the coming months has not improved. Traders therefore often opt for a reduction, although views differ on the extent to which the DCA BestPigletPrice should be reduced.
Based on the data, a reduction of €1,50 is expected, which brings the price down to €49 per piglet. Historically, reductions are exceptional at this time of year, but not entirely unusual in the light of the market. The German price is falling even more this week, at €6. At €59, the price is at its lowest point since the end of 2022. The difference between the BPP and the German VEZG piglet price has shrunk to €10.
