Movement on piglet market, DCA BestPigletPrice rises

25 November 2024 - Wouter Baan

For weeks, piglet prices have been moving sideways, but now there is some traction in the market again. This results in an increase in the DCA BestPigletPrice.

In recent weeks, it was already noticeable that the market has become friendlier, although sales are certainly not going smoothly. The surplus flocks have decreased and there is also more demand across Europe. In Spain, for example, but also in Germany and Poland. Dutch sales are more even.

Quotes up
Traders and exporters are talking about a cautious improvement in sentiment. Many contributors to the quotation believe that this should be reflected in the DCA BestPigletPrice. Based on the information, this will increase by €1 to €50 per piglet. The German piglet quotation will also increase for this week, by €0,50 to €59,50 per piglet. This is the first increase since February.

Whether the price increase will continue in the coming weeks is still difficult to say. Often, there is a seasonal upturn in this period of the year that continues towards spring. More will also be slaughtered in the coming weeks in the run-up to Christmas, which will create more room for placement. At the same time, the resistance from pig farmers is still considerable.
