The piglet market will remain a demand market for the time being. This will lead to further rising prices in the Netherlands. The German increases have made way for sideways price movements.
The demand for piglets has unexpectedly increased in recent weeks, not only in the Netherlands, but also in particular from the export markets. More specifically, this applies to Spain. At the same time, the supply is shrinking, partly due to the demand for slaughter piglets. This development is creating a good demand in the market, traders indicate.
However, traders are vigilant about raising prices too much. The situation on the pig market is too precarious for that. A Christmas revival is not in the cards this year and it remains to be seen how the market will start in the new year.
Increases of €2, as seen in Belgium and Spain, remain a bridge too far for the DCA BestPigletPrice for the time being, which rose by €1,50 this week to €53 per piglet.
