Hold on for DCA BestPigletPrice

23 December 2024 - Wouter Baan

After four consecutive increases, the DCA BestPigletPrice shows no further increase this week. Due to the loss of trading days around Christmas and New Year, sales are simply too sluggish for that.

There are still traders who plead for a further increase this broken week, but the majority of the suppliers believe that an unchanged quotation is appropriate. The demand for piglets is not there at the moment and in addition, organizing transport to distant destinations such as Spain is almost impossible.

As a result, the DCA BestPigletPrice remains at €55 per piglet. This is almost €15 lower than last year, when the price closed at a higher level than usual. German piglet prices are also moving sideways, as has been the case for some time.

Uncertainty marks pig market
Historically, the upward trend is resumed in the new year, although the start is often hesitant. This scenario is now also hanging over the market. There are quite strong rumours that the German pig price will (sharply) fall in the new year. In the event of a significant reduction, this will probably also have consequences for piglet sales. However, this is not yet the case.

Vion listing also down
It is already known that Vion will lower the pig price by €0,03 to €1,75 per kilo this week. This change was in the offing after the reductions in recent weeks at other Dutch slaughterhouses, although Vion is lowering it a cent more moderately.
