DCA Stock Market Price Continues to Rise and Breaks Through Barrier

4 April 2025 - Wouter Baan

Things remain rough on the pig market. Slaughterhouses are wholesale with increases, although determining the pig price sometimes proves to be no easy task. For the seventh week in a row, the DCA Beursprijs 2.0 has risen, now breaking through the €2 per kilo barrier.

The ingredients that explain the rapidly rising market are quite simple. The supply of pigs in North-Western Europe is tight (particularly in the Netherlands) and the demand for meat is on the rise. As a result, there is a demand market that will probably continue for a while, although the market seems to be taking a break around Easter.

With a full slaughter week still ahead, the shortage will continue for a while. However, traders sometimes indicate that the supply is less tight than in recent weeks. Due to the relatively heavy weights, it is not always possible to hold on to pigs, although the rising market does invite this. The Dutch slaughter figures for the past few weeks have not yet been published by RVO. The German slaughter figures are also still missing.

Interim balance spring increase
It is striking that Vion announced today that it will process the weekly surcharge of €0,04 in the quotation, which will result in €1,90 per kilo for this week. This is a signal that slaughterhouses want to visually display the pig price well. Since the spring increase started, Vion has increased by €0,27, which is 2 cents more than Van Rooi and 1 cent more than Compaxo. Westfort increased by no less than 39 cents, but integrated the surcharge in the basic price in week 10.

The German listing rose by 23 cents in the past two weeks and has clearly gained a leg. Traders expect a further increase of around 5 cents next week. The Internet exchange is meanwhile racing along at full speed and increased today by €0,08 to €2,08 per kilo, with all seven parties being sold.

All in all, it can be concluded that the optimism of the past few weeks will continue for a while. Based on the data, the DCA Beursprijs 2.0 increases by €0,06 to €2,03 per kilo for the slaughtered pigs. The quotation for live pigs increases by 4 cents to €1,59 per kilo.
