The demand for piglets is not improving. In addition, sales are somewhat hampered this week by the long Easter weekend. Despite this, the price is not yet moving down. However, the pressure on the DCA BestPigletPrice is increasing in the background.
Traders agree that sales are more difficult than a few weeks ago. This is mainly due to the pressure on Spanish demand. Export figures (up to and including week 15) are still above 50.000 for the time being, but the numbers will probably drop below this limit soon. Domestic sales are described as stable, but it is difficult to find a place for free piglets. This certainly applies to less common couples.

A decrease in the piglet price is becoming more visible, as is historically usual in the second quarter. Traders are opting for this here and there, but this week the DCA BestPigletPrice remains unchanged at €68,50 per piglet. Based on the average statements at DCA, it appears that this is a close call.
Elsewhere in Europe, piglet prices are also still stable, but the same force play probably applies.
