Waste processor Attero has acquired manure processor Greenferm in Apeldoorn from Berkhof and Comgoed. It is the first time that Attero, a major player in the processing of organic waste, is active in manure processing.
The installation has an annual capacity of approximately 350.000 tons for mainly pig manure and a portion of cattle manure. Attero believes it can apply its knowledge and expertise in processing GFT in manure processing.
According to Attero director Paul Ganzeboom, the takeover contributes to the company's ambitions in the field of circular economy and sustainable energy. The production of green gas is an important part of the installation, in addition to the production of fertilizers. The takeover by Attero is probably in anticipation of the mandatory blending obligation from 2026, whereby energy suppliers are obliged to add green gas to regular natural gas.
Current Greenferm directors Willem Berkhof and Frank Franzen speak of a logical step in the further development of the company. The collaboration with regular suppliers will continue. For example, Berkhof and Comgoed will remain involved in the supply of liquid manure and the removal of the thick fraction.
In 2018, Berkhof acquired a 75% stake in Greenferm. Comgoed later joined and both companies were half owners. Now, Attero is acquiring the shares for an undisclosed amount.
