The piglet trade is getting more difficult by the week. Within the fixed couplings there are usually few problems, but for free piglets it is almost like searching for buyers with a magnifying glass. The export demand is significantly weaker than about a month ago, traders indicate.

In week 17, the total export figure fell below the long-term average and also the level of 2024. However, not too many conclusions can be drawn from this, because Easter Monday fell in that week. The coming weeks will show to what extent the export figures correspond with the weaker sounds in the market.

Sales to Germany are not disappointing, but the good Spanish demand has decreased considerably. The fact that the pig price has been moving up falteringly in recent weeks is not helping sales on the domestic market either.

DCA BestPigletPrice
In recent weeks, the DCA BestPigletPrice has remained unchanged with difficulty, but that is not the case this week. Based on the information, the quotation has fallen by €1,50 to €67 per piglet. This is the first fall since January, when the market was shocked by the outbreak of FMD in Germany. Historically, the price drop on the Dutch piglet market has lasted for a number of weeks. In the meantime, the German VEZG piglet price has continued to rise by €0,50 to €73 per piglet.
