That the German pig price has shot up should not really come as a surprise. After all, the recovery was expected earlier. Moreover, the Internet stock exchange had already given several warning shots that it was about to happen. The breakthrough provides relief in the primary sector at least, as well as among traders. 

Meat market even less active
Slaughterhouses are less happy with the developments. The costs are coming before the benefits. In the sense that meat prices are not really showing signs of rising this week. The rising pig prices may still have a price-raising effect in the form of higher meat prices. In view of possible further price increases in June, this is necessary.

The pig supply in the Netherlands is described by traders as tight, despite the cancellation of a slaughter day with Ascension Day next week. Dutch slaughterhouses initially increased less than Germany, but something may still happen next week. The quotations will in any case have to keep up with the German market in order to limit the incentive to export pigs to German slaughterhouses.

The live export flow has already fallen sharply in recent weeks to structurally less than 10.000, but this number can also increase again with a growing price difference. In view of the further shrinkage of the Dutch pig population, slaughterhouses are prepared to do something extra in this phase of shrinkage to bind those who stay, it is said.

Opinions differ somewhat on the change in the DCA Beursprijs 2.0, although it is beyond dispute that the listing must change. Based on the information, the listing of slaughtered pigs increases by €0,06 to 2,09 per kilo. The price of live pigs increases by €0,05 to €1,64 per kilo.
