Piglet price continues downward trend

June 30, 2025 - Matthijs Bremer

The piglet price has taken another step down. The warm weather and the demand for piglets are clearly under pressure. In addition, the declining export to Spain is putting pressure on the piglet market.

Insiders in the market indicate that the demand for piglets is very weak. Sales are therefore currently quite difficult. There is still clearly more supply than demand, which is putting further pressure on prices. This is partly due to the usual seasonal pattern: at this time of year, the demand for piglets usually decreases.

Again dominant factor
An important factor in this is the high temperature. Pigs grow somewhat less quickly due to the warm weather. In addition, temperatures above 30 degrees mean that in many countries pig transports of longer than eight hours are not allowed. This also contributes to the fact that fewer pigs need to be replaced in the coming period.

In addition, insiders in the market indicate that European trade is also not doing well. The demand for pigs in Spain has clearly decreased in recent weeks. As a result, the export of piglets to the southern European country has also decreased somewhat.

All in all, the piglet price takes another step down. The DCA Best Piglet Price has taken a step down of €2. This brings the price down to €57,50 per piglet.
