Piglet prices slide to lowest level since 2022

With the eleventh consecutive reduction, the DCA BestPigletPrice has fallen to its lowest level since the summer of 2022. No buyers can be found for the piglet surplus still hanging over the market.

Piglet trading was poor, is poor, and will remain difficult in the coming weeks. There's simply no buying interest, and even lower prices are doing little to change that. Some traders believe prices need to stabilize to bring more stability to the market.

At current price levels, however, that's not yet the case if the Netherlands wants to remain somewhat competitive in export markets. Sales to Spain have fallen below 50.000 in recent weeks and are being described as weak. Exports were still well ahead of 2024 at the beginning of this year, but have fallen sharply in recent weeks.

Recently, more piglets have sometimes been shipped to Germany on a weekly basis, where demand is also weak due to competition. This wasn't the case this spring.

Decline continues
Traders expect the piglet market to bottom out sometime in the coming weeks, although some are more optimistic about this. In recent years, the market has typically stabilized in August. This week, however, that hasn't happened yet, and the DCA BestPigletPrice has fallen by €1,50 to €47 per piglet. This is the lowest level since November 2022.
