The pig market is more volatile elsewhere than here

The market is still in holiday mode. Despite a tight supply on paper, pigs sometimes have to be moved around. Slaughterhouses are making very little haste to slaughter. This will likely change in the coming weeks, when the "r" returns to the month.

Mixed picture in Europe
The market here isn't exciting at the moment. The meat trade is focused on the short term. Buyers are reluctant to commit to long-term agreements, with the thought that the market might decline this autumn. Much will depend on supply. While supply may be tight in the Netherlands, the European picture is, as before, indicated different.

The pressure on Spanish pig prices is a case in point. On the other hand, pig prices are rising in Italy. Due to the extreme heat and slowing growth, the supply of pigs for slaughter is under pressure. If you offset the changes, you arrive at stability. For what that's worth. The market picture in Eastern Europe is also stable.

Not in sight
It's currently difficult to predict market dynamics in a few weeks. In any case, the market is gradually coming out of holiday mode in the coming period, and that's more likely to be positive than negative for sentiment. Nevertheless, price increases aren't currently on the horizon, according to various market figures. Dutch slaughterhouses have had difficult weeks in terms of sales and margins, although that's not unusual at this time of year. Vion's recent price reduction attempt wasn't, of course, conceived as a joke.

Based on the data, the DCA Exchange Price 2.0 remains unchanged at €1,93 per kilo for slaughtered pigs. The price of live pigs moves sideways at €1,50 per kilo.
