Surcharges exchanged in DCA BestPigletPrice

20 October 2025 - Wouter Baan - 9 comments

Due to a proliferation of surcharges in recent years, DCA Market Intelligence, as compiler of the BestPigletPrice, has decided to include these (partly) in the basic price.

In concrete terms, this means that 15% of the premiums will be deducted and that the base price has been set at €40 per piglet this week. In recent years, premiums in the market have risen significantly, sometimes by as much as 35% or even higher. This development is considered undesirable by many market participants in the long term, which is why DCA Market Intelligence, after consulting with the advisory committee, has decided to partially convert the premiums into the base price. methodology nothing changes from the DCA BestPigletPrice.

The reason for exchanging the premiums now is that the Dutch piglet market appears to be stabilizing this week after a long period of decline. This can be seen as a logical time to make such an adjustment to the quotation.

Basic BPP 35 plus allowance or BPP 40 plus allowance affects the final price. DCA is raising the price today, not because the piglets are more expensive, but because of the calculation method.

A tough move. This isn't helping the relationship between the breeder and the fattener. The price was already too high compared to other listings, and now this again. And then with the prospect that the meat pigs will soon have to be reduced again...

Just stop with that BPP listing, that's the only way.

Good move. The surcharges can't dominate the base price.

I don't understand all that surcharge on vaccinations and so on. Piglets should just be good for the base price. When you buy a car, you don't pay a premium for quality, but it should still be good.

Indeed, there's something to say/think about it again. Because they're only doing it to make a difference. Because doing nothing isn't an option. But it does help to make it easier to mess around with those damn surcharges again later. Because compare it to Germany now: 60 euros with the normal surcharge. NL 46 to 50 euros with the normal surcharge (at least, if you still want to hear that they gave a OOOOIIIITTTTT max 18% surcharge, well then shoot me). But then again, a significant difference, so the propagators can expect more traders for coffee because of this exchange............. and here we go again.......
