The drop in pig prices has also taken a hit to the piglet trade. Piglet prices are currently caught between two extremes.
The supply of piglets is still on the tight side, partly due to rising export demand. On the other hand, there is considerable resistance from Dutch pig farmers. This resistance had been latent in recent weeks, but resurfaced last week due to the drop in pig prices.
Many traders are therefore opting for an unchanged piglet price. On balance, there are few proponents of a downward correction, nor of a further increase.
As a result, the DCA BestPigletPrice remains unchanged this week at €41 per piglet. The German VEZG quotation also remains unchanged at €44 per piglet.
