The pig market isn't going anywhere with last week's unexpected drop. Dutch slaughterhouses are once again slashing pig prices this week. German pig prices are also falling.
As we wrote last week: the pig market feels unstable And from that perspective, it's not entirely surprising that Dutch pig prices are falling again. Yet, this does little to alleviate the disappointment for the primary sector. Vion is reducing prices by €0,06 to €1,38 per kilo. Westfort is reducing prices by €0,05 to €1,46 per kilo.
The German VEZG price, which remained stable last week, is falling by €0,10 to €1,60 per kilo this week. This is the lowest level since February 2022, just before prices rose sharply due to the then-new war in Ukraine.
Although December is approaching, pork sales are struggling. Moreover, slaughterhouses continue to rely on ample supplies from Denmark and Spain, creating a competitive market in Europe. This contrasts with the beef market, where tight supply leads to rising prices.
