The Spanish pig sector has been facing headwinds since the summer. Spanish and European pork supplies have grown. The global pork supply was also higher in the second half of the year, including from Brazil. In September, Chinese import tariffs were added to this, after which pig prices suffered a significant blow following the ASF outbreak.

Hope for stabilization
The sector hopes that stabilizing Spanish purchase prices will support the market in the coming months. Spanish slaughterhouses and processors are offering a lot of meat on European markets after the sharp declines in recent weeks. With the current stabilization, the difference in purchase prices will certainly not increase.

In week 30, the Spanish Lerida price peaked at €1,815 per kilogram live weight. This was followed by no fewer than 22 price corrections, reaching €1,04 per kilogram live weight in week 52.
