For the first time since early November last year, the DCA BestPigletPrice is showing an increase. Demand for piglets (including exports) is noticeably picking up at the end of January. The trend in the pig meat market remains unchanged for the time being.
Demand for piglets has been noticeably improving since the middle of last week. This is mainly due to increased demand for larger export flocks, which are selling for prices between €36 and €38 per piglet (or even higher). Prices for smaller group flocks are lower, but still above the quoted prices, according to reports.
Demand is rising, particularly from Spain. This can be seen as an unexpected movement that is noticeably boosting the market. At the same time, resistance remains on the domestic market, as pig prices show little sign of rising. However, this doesn't change the fact that demand for piglets is also picking up on the domestic market.
Unchanged pig market
The DCA Exchange Mutation Price remains unchanged this week, in line with component prices. Supply remains relatively high, partly due to disruptions at various slaughterhouses, which forced pigs to be moved last week. The average slaughter weight is slowly declining again, indicating that the pig prolapse is on the decline. In week 3, the weight decreased by 0,4 kg to an average of 102,2 kg. The 286.389 pigs slaughtered that week were comparable to last year. Supply is expected to remain relatively high for a few more weeks.
According to market insiders, the finisher market will remain relatively sluggish for the time being. Market insiders say the pig supply bottleneck that arose after Christmas hasn't yet been resolved. Consequently, demand for finishers is not yet showing signs of recovery. However, the bottleneck is expected to resolve somewhat sooner than in previous years, as a significant number of pig farmers closed their operations last year due to the Lbv+ scheme. Whether this will lead to a price increase is still difficult to predict. Although supply is expected to decline, availability in our competitive markets (particularly in Denmark) remains ample.
Plusje DCA BestPigletPrice
Opinions differ on whether or not to increase the piglet price. The average of €31,940 convincingly points to an increase of €0,50, bringing the DCA BestPigletPrice this week to €32 per piglet.
