Danish piglet exports to Poland reach new record

A total of 16,8 million pigs crossed the border, according to figures from the Danish pig farmers' union, Danske Svine Producenter. In 2024, this figure was 16,6 million animals. Although this is the total number of pigs exported, the vast majority are export piglets destined for foreign fatteners. This marks another record for Danish pig exports.

Poland main buyer
With 7,8 million animals, Polish fatteners were the main buyers of Danish piglets in 2025. This was over 500.000 more than a year earlier. Polish fatteners expanded their pig production significantly, which also led to a significantly higher number of massacres in the country.

Just as in the Netherlands, the importance of the German market for Danish piglet exports is gradually declining. In 2025, 7,3 million pigs were shipped from Denmark to Germany. In 2024, that figure was 7,4 million. This means that German imports will remain at a historically high level. In 2020, for example, only 6,2 million pigs crossed the border. The decline in German import demand in Denmark remains relatively limited compared to the situation in the Netherlands.

Danish pig production increases
In addition to the increased number of export pigs, the number of slaughters in Denmark also increased significantly. 2025 Danish slaughterhouses processed 0,78 million more pigs for meat production than in 2024. Combined with the higher export volumes, this means that Danish pig production will have increased significantly in 2025.
