They are the Dutch Pork Price Index and the Dutch Piglet Price IndexThey are composite indices that combine the prices of Dutch slaughterhouses and traders with the DCA Exchange Price and the DCA BestPigletPrice.

"With the two indices, we calculate the average pig price per kilo of carcass weight and the average piglet price at the end of the trading week using a fixed weighting," explains Eric de Lijster, Head of PRA at DCA Market Intelligence. "In this way, we reflect the trend of the Dutch pig market in the relevant week using a single price in these indices. It is a perfect complement to the Exchange Price and the BestPigletPrice, which set the price at the beginning of the week."

Pig price continues upward trend
The DCA Dutch Pork Price Index has risen by 5 cents, according to DCA's calculations. The price has increased from €1,39 to €1,44 per kilo. This continues the trend that began in week 7. Since that week, the average pig price has risen from the low level of €1,25 per kilo.

With this, the index mirrors the increases at the major slaughterhouses this week one-to-one. Prices in Germany rose by 10 cents. In response, all major Dutch slaughterhouses are adjusting prices upwards by 5 cents.

Piglet price rises
The price of piglets has also risen. In week 9, the average price of piglets stood at €47,32 per piglet. In week 10, the level had risen to €51,13 per head. The increase fits the rising pattern of the European market. Demand from Spain, in particular, is strong. This is driving up overall demand in Europe, giving piglet prices on the Dutch market room to rise.
