The DCA Dutch Pork Index and the DCA Dutch Piglet Index remain stable this week. The meat market is stable for the time being after Easter, and the piglet market also remains stable.
For the second week in a row, the DCA Dutch Pork Index remains unchanged. The price stands at €1,48 per kilo. This is not unexpected. Pork prices always rise in the run-up to Easter, but the market usually stabilizes afterwards. The peak demand around the holiday is over by then, but the market remains strong due to preparations for the barbecue season. Additionally, the spring period is always strong for the hospitality industry, as terraces are always busy during this time.
Meanwhile, the DCA Dutch Piglet Index also remains unchanged. In week 15, the index stood at €58,42 per piglet. The market was slightly more open due to the cancellation of a processing day related to Easter. The expectation is that demand will fall back somewhat and that the market will enter a slight oversupply situation. Demand from Spain will most likely decrease, as most pigs have already been placed ahead of the strong summer period.
