The ACM has granted permission for the acquisition of Van Loon by slaughterhouse Van Rooi. Read more about the acquisition.
The companies announced the acquisition at the beginning of this year. The fact that the decision was made quite easily comes as no surprise. The companies operate at different levels, as Van Rooi, as a slaughterhouse, operates primarily at the beginning of the chain, while Van Loon processes meat into finished products for retail and the hospitality industry.
The companies are roughly the same size. Van Loon has approximately 2.500 and Van Rooi 2.400 employees. Both family businesses generate an annual turnover of around €1 billion. A key consideration for Van Loon to sell the company is that no successor was ready to lead it.
