Demand for piglets has declined in recent weeks. Spaniards, in particular, have become more reluctant to purchase. During the peak weeks in March, over 50.000 Dutch piglets were sent that way; now, the number is around 40.000. This number is likely to drop further in the coming weeks, making more piglets available on the domestic market.

(Remaining) litters are increasingly becoming available again. However, buyers are not lining up for them. Nevertheless, the supply of piglets remains relatively tight, and that is keeping prices stable. Whether this will continue in the coming weeks remains to be seen. Historically, price pressure arises later in the spring, but the precise moment is difficult to determine.

Pressure is expected to increase during the split slaughter weeks surrounding King's Day, Ascension Day, and Pentecost, but that is still some time away. Despite a few low figures, the DCA BestPigletPrice remains unchanged at €57,50 per piglet. Based on previous years, the Dutch piglet price is expected to remain stable in the coming weeks.

Slight rise in Stock Market Change Price
Nevertheless, given current pig prices, price pressure on the piglet market is likely, although the pig market does give a more positive impression. Supply in Northwest Europe after Easter is tight and slaughter weights are falling, although this may be partly masked this week by NVWA employees who want to return on Tuesday. to strike.

The other side of the coin is that demand for pork is not strong, although the market is picking up slightly. Several traders believe the time is ripe for a rise in pig prices. Others think it is still too early and that the chances of increases are greater later this year. Based on the data, the DCA Exchange Price is rising by €0,01 per kilo.
