Approvals: Keep your head cool now

8 May 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 9 comments

'The introduction of the young cattle number was not well coordinated with the dairy farming sector, only with the beef cattle sector,' says Frans Keurentjes, chairman of the board of FrieslandCampina.

Keurentjes says that the dairy farming sector is in talks with the Ministry of Economic Affairs about an alternative to the young cattle number. 'Until then, I advise dairy farmers to only take those steps that match the phosphate reduction plan and keep a cool head.'

According to Keurentjes, dairy farmers should not lose sight of the goal of the Phosphate Reduction Regulation and show solidarity with each other. 'It's about maintaining the derogation. We are almost there.'

And again the boldest growers are rewarded
Unfair now it comes on the ordinary farmer's plate while the big growers are to blame

Maybe they should go to court too?

If we keep the ranks closed, we'll keep the derogation (maybe). The question is ; how long do we keep up the cooperative model, and do we have to share the pain.

We're the first to run across with the white flag?

That derogation is a dirty monstrosity anyway.
As farmers, we have to bleed for it. Just keep records of what is extracted from the soil and what you can therefore supplement for everyone. Then those farmers will also learn something from fertilization standards instead of calculating in cubic meters! And then the inequality between the sectors to spare the apparently less smart livestock farmers will also be gone. The solidarity between the sectors has just been killed by the introduction of the derogation by LTO at the time!!!

@Patatje. Fully agree with you. But there is still an injustice in it. There are many farmers who built a large barn during the milk quota period with a view to expanding, because they thought buying or renting quota was just a waste of money. The farmers who have bought/rented quota during quota time for expansion therefore now have to bleed for the after-quota growers.

It's not going to be possible to make something fair out of this. Everyone has to fight for their own fight together and it is not possible to achieve something. In other sectors people would never work together, because you are competing with each other. that's how we should start thinking.
kalf 9 May 2017
Of course that works, but the banks and the dairy industry are interfering with it. So the LTO will follow their lead as always and there you go again.

Calf, I totally agree with you.
When I see the reactions to an open letter from Mr. Van Eerd to Melkweb, I have to conclude that the dairy farmers are quite united with a view to a different interpretation of the derogation. Unfortunately, the dairy industry and lto do not want to listen to their members and they stubbornly stick to their phosphate reduction plan/phosphate rights.
This plan can never succeed!!!
At the moment, 52 dairy farmers have been found in the right and 'dismissed' from the phosphate reduction plan. Thousands of dairy farmers will follow who are in the same situation as these 52 dairy farmers. However, the group that must support the phosphate reduction plan is becoming very small. The 'dismissed' dairy farmers will also increase their number of cows again, which will nullify a large part of the result achieved by the phosphate reduction plan at the moment.
A large number of the group of dairy farmers who have been subject to the phosphate reduction plan will accept the fines in the last months of 2017; this to be able to milk at full power in 2018. The question is whether the phosphate reduction plan will still succeed.
Dairy farmers have also been advised that a recycling pointer may be used in 2018. However, you hear more and more often that it is questionable whether this will continue.
Dairy industry and lto, listen to all your members.
Put an end to the phosphate reduction plan/phosphate rights before the chaos gets even bigger.

Keurentjes First look at your own directors who brought in extra livestock with insider knowledge (in the stock market this is punishable) before July 2, 2015. Let's tackle that first.

Keurentjes is deafeningly silent about the RFC issue in China.
