BB TV: Jan van Hoogen

'It is not possible to expand potato acreage here'

4 August 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 1 reaction

According to Jan van Hoogen, general manager at Agrico, potato acreage is no longer available in the Netherlands. "We are really at the top with seed potatoes. The Netherlands is actually just full." Van Hoogen explains what effects this has on the market.

Van Hoogen also discusses Agrico's strategy and the use of seed potatoes.

I do not agree with Hoogen's statement because now that the number of cows is falling, land is becoming available for other crops, grass and maize is abundant and plots of maize have already been converted to potatoes in 2017 and when this is indicated early enough fewer seed potatoes are exported so that there is enough seed available.
