11 August 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 10 comments

Minister Edith Schippers and State Secretary Martijn Van Dam announced on Thursday 10 August that the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) was already aware of the possible unlawful use of fipronil on poultry farms in November. Hennie de Haan, chairman of the Dutch Union of Poultry Farmers (NVP) responds to this.

In addition, she looks back on the crisis, the damage to the image of poultry companies at home and abroad and she explains what lessons the sector and politics can learn. "The NVWA can also expect damage claims."

If the eggs were tested for fipronil levels last year, it would show that they were well below the standard. In January this year, the NVWA nevertheless decided to drastically lower the standard.
In November 2016 they already knew about Fipronil use. they have therefore considerably lowered the standard in January this year. it makes you think.

They have to put the top of the NVWA in jail with the perpetrators. When checking with the farmer, whether it is food safety or Ib and you name it controlling authorities: They attack the farmer about the smallest trifle, and they already threaten sanctions. The top of such controlling authorities must take and bear their responsibility, so resign, or be thrown out by the judiciary without benefit, and go to jail.

If you know about the use in November and a European standard of 0,72 is used, what is the reason to bring the standard to 1 as of 0,005 January. You do not have to be an expert to draw a conclusion to this , then you have fallen to the lowest imaginable level and in order to lurk entrepreneurs and help them into the abyss , it is also very strange that we do not hear now that so many animals have to be killed much too early, it is to be hoped that the prices of chicken meat and eggs will be sky high, so the citizen will pay the bill again.

Do you also do that with all the so-called growth promoters that are being pushed in arable farming?
man get out. There are even affected companies that have inquired with their certification body about the Barneveldse company whether it was okay. And they were confirmed there that it was a great company with ditto method. Now are you allowed to stay healthy? mind!

common sense, if I make a product I would disclose the composition of it if you could make it too, never because that is my business you don't know what the composition of gasoline is and how you can make it, do you only thing is don't throw it in the diesel tank. Now this has a very annoying effect and they should have told you more about the amount (concentration) but I still stick to my previous comment.

fipronil as an insecticide in vegetable farming. The agent is not only used by veterinarians, but also in agriculture to prevent insect damage, especially on maize, sunflowers and rice. Traces of it can therefore also be found in margarine (via sunflowers) or

@Bert: As far as I know, sunflower seed should not be treated with Fipronil. This could lead to bee deaths. Leek seed, for example, may be treated…

Why did the Superior Health Council warn against fipronil in June 2016?
Science doubts
The answer is not complicated. Because a scientific discussion has arisen about the health effects of fipronil as an insecticide in plant agriculture. The agent is not only used by veterinarians, but also in agriculture to prevent insect damage, especially on maize, sunflowers and rice.
