BB TV: Marijn Dekkers

'Price of phosphate rights far too high'

5 October 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 15 comments

"The price of options on phosphate rights is far too high in relation to the volatile milk price," says Marijn Dekkers, sector specialist at Rabobank Nederland. He advises dairy farmers to build up a buffer instead of buying phosphate rights now.

That is how it is, substantial buffering, so that there will soon be money to buy phosphate rights that are becoming very expensive.
You don't need them yet, so I wouldn't spend any money on them now.
Who currently wants to sell phosphate rights for €200??
Neither does anyone!!
All those big new stables have to be filled, and everyone is going to fill up that 8,4% discount and if the market is already €9000,-/cow, while the rights have not even been awarded yet, well then... just wait and see.
It simply cannot be otherwise than that these rights become very expensive, otherwise nobody will sell.
Also don't forget that as a seller you are also immediately finished.
And just look at how it once started trading milkq. At the time, the depreciation period was initially 3 years, then 5 years and when it turned out that this was no longer financially feasible for the buyers, it became 8 years.
Marijn also forgets to mention that these new stables meet the latest environmental requirements and that no asbestos roofs need to be replaced. They don't have to reserve money for that.

and later grumble again that the milk is not enough. The quota was not the same. What about that proverb about that stone you shouldn't bump into twice?

As soon as possible with the pig farmers around the table to exchange phosphate.
More than half of the pig farmers are in favor, according to research. So it can't be that hard

if you have land left, you can quickly pay those crazy amounts. The sum of land right stole cow .. determines the balance. if you have land and stables left and only the cow remains, the investment for the expansion is small.

35.000 0,5 hc of land, 5000 euro barn, 5000 euro right, 1500 cow.. if you have land and stable, and you can get an extra cow for an investment of 6500, it quickly becomes profitable. A lot of rights will therefore be transferred to extensive companies. The intensive companies buy up the vacant land and ultimately the sector is land-bound.

I think Marijn needs to catch up at Rabobank's head office.
Then he is told that new (air) money has arisen among the dairy farmers.
Always handy for a bank that has lent so much money to this sector.

Now I like to sell part of my phosphate rights, that phosphate law will not hold up. And a bit of a stupid comment that you can buy phosphate rights if you have enough land. have enough land!

What is your asking price for a phosphate right?

would you like to sell my pork rights for converted
this price
a bit lower price for dairy farms but for pig rights
at least 5 times as expensive then we can remediate warmer
Doesn't cost the government anything

how much will the new (super levy) fine be?
This will be the target price!

My advice then is; Also for the stoppers DO NOT sell, because the so-called SIZE boys (intensive companies) need you badly and do not want to sit in the front row for a quarter while they have spoiled the atmosphere!!

one thing is for sure, there will be no extra cows in view of the methane target that the (new) cabinet has set aside.

for the pig farmers there is a rotting premium ready. Everyone happy?

Many farmers have already built up a substantial buffer of silage, which can go a few years ahead.
